The 11 acre farm is located in Gilbert AZ and is the geographical center of the new-urbanist community Agritopia. The farm was designed to flourish in this suburban setting – instead of a huge field of one crop, you find a patchwork of numerous specialty crops. All of the produce grown on the farm is USDA Certified Organic.
Our produce is sold through our Farm Stand, a weekly CSA, two weekly Farmers’ Markets, as well as served at thirty local restaurants.
We grow a variety of vegetables, citrus, apples, peaches, and medjool dates. We have a community garden which consists of 43 plots, communal herb gardens, community tool shed, wash sinks and shade structure. We are a year-round operation, growing through the hot summer months, as well as the cold winter temperatures.
Intern work will include bed preparation, planting, weeding, harvesting, washing produce, greenhouse work, animal care, compost operations, restaurant deliveries, and selling at farmers’ markets. Other activities will include beekeeping, date pollination and harvesting, as well as community educational opportunities.
We will expect 45-55 hours of work every week in exchange for clean and safe housing accommodations. We can accommodate up to four interns, who will live in a house located on the farm. Bedrooms and living spaces will be shared. Food staples will be provided, as well as fruits, vegetables and meat from the farm. Interns will be responsible for all cooking and cleaning. WIFI is provided.
We prefer stays of at least three months, after a two week trial period. Paid work may be available for those who choose to stay past their internship. We will consider shorter stays on a situational basis.
The Town of Gilbert is a suburb of Phoenix, which is about a half hour drive away. Public transportation is available through the bus and lightrail systems. Being in the east Phoenix valley, our location offers a unique combination of urban lifestyle and easy access to the desert landscape. We are surrounded by multiple mountain ranges, including the Superstition and San Tan mountains, which offer great opportunities for camping and hiking.
The farm is run by a group of young farmers who work hard, but thoroughly enjoy our time together. We’re looking for open-minded individuals who are motivated and passionate to fit in with our close knit farm crew.
We cannot accept children or pets at this time.
